Before I became a mom, I always knew photographs were important.
But after becoming a mother, I realized just how much they truly mean.
Motherhood has completely changed the way I look at photography. It's no longer just about creating beautiful images, it's about holding onto the moments that pass by WAY too quickly.
It Really Does Go By So Fast
Everyone tells you, "Enjoy it, it goes by so fast."
I hear it all the time, but I don't think you truly understand it until you're living it.
One minute you're bringing home your tiny newborn, and the next they're laughing, talking, crawling around the house, and becoming their own little person.
Some days feel so long, but somehow the months feel incredibly short.
As moms, we're so busy cleaning bottles, folding laundry, wiping sticky hands, and keeping up with everyday life that we don't always realize we're living the moments we'll one day miss.
That's one of the reasons I love photography so much.
It gives us a chance to pause for just a little while and hold onto this moment before it becomes another memory.
Moms Are Usually the One Behind the Camera
If you're anything like me, your camera roll is probably full of your kids.
Mine is too now.
I have hundreds of photos of my family... but not nearly enough with me actually in them.
It's so easy to think, "We'll do pictures next year," or "I'll wait until I lose a little weight."
I've had those thoughts too. Sometimes, I still do.
But the truth is, our kids don't see the things we pick apart about ourselves.
They just see Mom.
The person who gives the best hugs, reads bedtime stories, kisses their cheeks, and makes them feel safe.
That's who they'll want to remember. The Best Photos Aren't Perfect
Motherhood has also taught me that perfection isn't what makes a photograph meaningful.
It's the little things.
The way your child reaches for your hand.
The way they snuggle into your shoulder.
The genuine laughs that happen in between poses.
Those are the moments that make my heart happiest.
They're real.
And years from now, they'll be the ones that matter most.
Every Session Means Something.
When I photograph a family, I'm not just thinking about how the images will look.
I'm thinking about how they'll feel years from now.
I'm imagining your children pulling out an album one day.
Walking past a portrait hanging in your home.
Remembering what life felt like during this chapter.
That's what makes this work so meaningful to me.
Motherhood Changed My Heart
Becoming a mom has made me appreciate every session on a much deeper level.
I know how quickly children grow.
I definitely know how easy it is to put yourself last.
And I know how precious these seasons really are.
That's why I don't take it lightly when a family trusts me to document them.
It's an incredible privilege.
If there's one thing motherhood has taught me, it's that there will probably never be a "perfect" time.
Life will always be busy.
There will always be something on the calendar.
But these little moments don't wait for us.
One day, the tiny hands you're holding now won't be so tiny anymore.
The little voice calling, "Mommy!" will grow up.
And these everyday moments will become some of your most treasured memories.
That's why I do what I do.
Not just to give you beautiful portraits, but to preserve this chapter exactly as it is so years from now, you can look back and remember not only what your family looked like, but what it felt like to love them in this moment of life.
